Welcome to
The Institute for Sustainable Capitalism
The purpose of the Institute is to
develop and promote ways of running businesses and making investments that
are socially and environmentally responsible, and commercially successful.
The ultimate goal is to bring about truly sustainable forms of capitalism
that are implemented into the mainstream of companies and economies around
the world and serve to create more humane, just, and sustainable societies.
Global Academy chair Walter Link and many of the Academy’s partners and
friends are pioneers in the international movement to promote corporate
social and environmental responsibility. The Institute for Sustainable
Capitalism builds on these efforts and forms partnership with other leading
institutions and individuals active in this field.
By co-creating networks for learning and action and by delivering
educational programs such as conferences, seminars, university programs,
and publications, the Institute for Sustainable Capitalism reaches out
internationally to diverse audiences of business leaders, investors,
governments, civil society, and the general public.
The Institute’s activities are organized in three interconnected work
streams:
1-The
Natural Capitalism Academy
The Natural Capitalism Academy (NCA) works with companies, governments,
civil society, and academia to implement Natural Capitalism, a pragmatic and
proven approach to reorienting organizations and society towards
sustainability. NCA develops and delivers educational programs in a wide
array of formats, offers consulting to businesses and communities, and
partners with experienced development organizations to spread the word about Natural Capitalism
to emerging economies of the developing world.

2-Business
Networks for Corporate Responsibility
The Global Academy is a founding sponsor and continues to support the work
of EMPRESA, the leading alliance of business networks for corporate
responsibility in the Americas. Global Academy chair Walter Link co-created
EMPRESA’s founding conference, and since its inception has been part of
EMPRESA’s governing council and is currently helping to establish a
newly-formed Board of Advisors. Mr. Link is also a co-founder and past board
chair of the Social Venture Network Europe and has been involved in the
development other such initiatives. The Global Academy sees such networks as
a key to the transformation of companies and economies around the world.

3-Responsible
Investment Conferences
The Global Academy and Progressive Asset Management recently co-hosted the
first in a series of conferences aimed at promoting the reorientation of
pension fund investments, which represent 33% of the NY Stock Exchange and
46% of US GDP, towards social and environmental sustainability. The highly
successful Bottom Line 2001 conference attracted numerous pension fund
trustees and managers, representing more that a trillion investment dollars.
It is the Academy’s intention to cooperate with its partners to create an
institute dedicated to this ongoing work. (More...)
