Educational Design
”For
learning to be effective and meaningful, the educational experience must not
only provide useful information, but also an environment that will help the
learner to gain deeper personal understanding, perspective, and meaning.”
-
Walter Link, Chairman, The Global Academy
The success of any conference,
symposium, task force, or other initiative depends on effective
educational presentations that produce a profound and lasting impact on the
event’s attendees.
GA
WORKS utilizes the extensive educational experience of its principals,
advisors, and partners to create innovative educational environments that
support and encourage in-depth learning, dialogue, network development, and
action. In these environments, the learner not only gains valuable
information, but also expands his/her capacity to understand and integrate
that knowledge and experience.
GA
WORKS is privileged to have
among our Educational Design team a leading facilitator, Mark Gerzon, whose
expertise is grounded in years of research and writing in the field of
global dialogue. Mark specializes in bringing together companies,
organizations, expert panels, and professional and general audiences in the
spirit of deep dialogue that exemplifies the goals of the Global Academy.
Mark is president of the Mediators Foundation and director of The Global
Commons, a collaborative project designed to explore competing perspectives
on globalization. Called "an expert in civil discourse" by the "New York
Times," Mark has acted as a consultant to communities, organizations an
government; having designed and facilitated two bi-partisan retreats for the
U.S. House of Representatives. Mark was instrumental in developing a pilot
project of the Global Academy called Global Dialogue Partners, and is the
distinguished author of "A House Divided" and "Leaders Without Borders."
Mark provides ongoing training for emerging leaders of society—including
civil society, business and government––to find their authentic voices. His
current interest is developing a leadership training that truly catalyzes
thinking and action from a global perspective.
A GA
WORKS-designed educational experience is a process through which a
learner constructs knowledge, skill and value from direct experiences. All
of our programs aim to achieve the highest level of learning for all
participants.
During the planning process, our design specialists will work with you to:
Determine the most effective goals for
your event education programs
Develop the subject content to be the
most effective and topical for your event
Fashion constructive dialogues
Coach presenters and speakers prior to
their presentations
The Global Academy creates innovative and effective educational environments
as part of its mission to promote sustained learning and open dialogue on
some of the most critical issues of our time.
Education events designed and
planned by GA staff include:

The China Forums
GA
WORKS designed an innovative format in an intriguing environment that
resulted in intense, fruitful, and rewarding dialogue and learning. US and
Chinese delegations first met in a private, invitation-only conference at
the site of the discovery of Peking Man to discuss the ethical, social, and
legal issues of genomics. This dialogue then continued at a public town hall
meeting, an unusual format within Chinese culture.
